Derick Hinch is currently an Assistant Track and Field coach at Minnesota State University where he is pursuing his Master’s degree in Sports Management. At MSU he is working primarily with the pole vaulters, but also helps with the sprinters, jumpers and decathletes. Derick is from Auburn, California, a small town in northern California. Growing up he played soccer, basketball, baseball, football and track and field. Throughout high school he focused on football, baseball and track and field, playing all three sports for his high school. Derick has assisted with coaching kids from 8-18 years old. He is very excited to assist the community of Nicollet by being their new summer ball coordinator.

After graduating high school, he attended Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, California to continue running track and field. There he attained his Associates degree in Liberal Arts along with winning the California Junior college state meet in the pole vault. After receiving his AA Degree, he transferred to Arizona State University to pole vault for their track and field team. At ASU Derick became both an indoor and outdoor All-American in the pole vault. In 2012 he scored as high as third at the NCAA Division 1 Nationals meet along with qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Trials. At ASU he is currently ranked second in school history with a vault of 5.50m (18’.05’’). In 2014 he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Sustainability. After Graduating Derick continued his pole vault career Training at the Olympic Training center in Chula Vista, California.
