Cam F. Awesome visited Nicollet Secondary on Monday and delivered an inspiring presentation focused on resilience, confidence, and perseverance. Sharing his journey from being bullied to becoming a 12-time national boxing champion, he encouraged students to embrace failure as part of success and develop a champion’s mindset. His energetic and relatable message motivated students to believe in themselves, work hard, and overcome challenges both in school and in life.

The Mankato Moondogs are partnering with Nicollet Public School for Muttnick’s Reading Club from February 28 through April 2. Students will track their reading minutes and work toward weekly, baseball-themed goals — 1st Base through Home Run — set by their classroom teachers.
As students complete signed tracking forms and reach each milestone, they will earn prizes: a Moondogs folder (1st Base), two free Habaneros tickets valid for any 2026 regular season game (2nd Base), a Moondogs logo baseball (3rd Base), and two free Moondogs tickets valid for one designated 2026 game (Home Run). The program promotes excitement and enthusiasm for reading while rewarding students for their hard work.

Today grade 06 students participated in Junior Achievement program called BizTown. BizTown combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to a simulated town. This popular learning experience allows students to operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and vote for mayor. Students are able to connect the dots between what they learn in school and the real world.

We celebrated our students of the quarter last week with a program during advisory. These students were chosen by their teachers for consistently showing Raider Pride and serving as role models for others. Congratulations! Note: it was class color dress up day for snow week, which is why one student is wearing a blue wig!

Today our K12 Nicollet family celebrated together during our annual PBIS Pancake Breakfast.
This year our 9th graders hosted the event by starting their school day cooking up flapjacks and pouring syrup on short stacks. It is a great event we look forward to every February with all our K12 students.

On Thursday grade 6 students took a walking tour to visit the Nicollet Water Treatment Facility. Students learned where our water comes from, how it is made safe to drink and then after it is used, how it gets retreated. On our trip students also learned about some of the historic buildings in downtown Nicollet.

Today students participated in our annual Spelling Bee! We kicked off the event with a minibee for grades 3-4 which was won by Wesley spelling the word Señor. Then we moved into the grade 5-8 Spelling Bee. With tough competition and correctly spelling the word 'Claustrophobia' Lynken won the top spot and will move onto the regional competition.

Today our American Government students visited our State Capitol! We learned about the physical construction of the building, we saw different rooms and learned how they are used (Including Chambers, Governor Reception Room and State Supreme Court). After our Tour Guides left us, we received a personal visit by our District's State Senator Nick Frentz and our hometown Legislative Representative Erica Schwartz. Both Sen. Frentz and Rep. Schwartz gave our students an exclusive tour through the chamber floors of the House and Senate. What a great experience!
